Royal Monastery at San Juan de la Peña

We stopped at Royal Monastery of San Juan de la Peña as we made our way to Roncesvalles. The pre-Romanesque building is located under a massive outcropping. Within its walls are a Mozarabic church, a Royal Tomb, and a beautiful colonnade (above). The capitals that sit atop the columns depict scenes from the Bible. For example:

The adulteress taken before Christ. The Jews stand around looking on with trepidation.

The Last Supper showing John resting his head on the Lord's chest. Judas is to the left receiving the "sop" from the Lord as a symbol of his betrayal.
