Day 6 - Los Arcos to Logroño: The longest day yet...

Today we covered about 18 miles over fairly hilly terrain. It goes without saying that the day was exhausting. Gratefully our hotel was near the entrance to Logroño. Along the way we stopped in Torres del Río, a beautiful little hilltop town...

We paused here to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher built in the 12th century. Like the church in Eunate, it is octagonal with signs of Mudejar architectural designs, especially evident in its star-shaped vaulted dome.

What is particularly intriguing is that the ribs that fall onto the corbels just over the apse show the names of the Lord's apostles...

From left to right, Mateo (Matthew), Petrus (Peter), illegible, illegible, Jacobus (James) and Ion (John)

As noted, the terrain is hilly...

Here we are nearing La Rioja, one of Spains most prestigious wine production districts. These are huge vineyards. They will become even more frequent as we move along the Camino.

The descent into Logroño.
