Day 13 - San Juan de Ortega to Burgos

 It was a beautiful, yet slightly chilly, day. Again, we made our way over rolling hills until we reached the top of Matagrande and the Cross of Atapuerca. Some have called this the Calvary, probably because of the rockiness of the path that takes you to this point.

At the top you get you first view of Burgos in the distance. Placed at this point is a statement from Las peregrinaciones jacobeas by Luciano Huidobro Serna (1874-1958), translated reads: "...since the pilgrims, having conquered the mountains of Navarre in Burguete, beheld the vast plains of Spain, he has not enjoyed a more beautiful sight than this."

We made it into Burgos safely and rested. The next day was Sunday. We attended the local branch where by chance we met President and Sister Grow, the Madrid North Mission leaders. It was a beautiful meeting where we were privileged to share a muscial piece with the members.

In the afternoon we went to the Cathedral and spent time there learning.

Tomorrow we will visit the Monasterio de Santo Domingo de Silos and spend time with our friend, padre Angel.
